How Did the iPhone Hype Begin?

Everything seemed to change when the very first iPhone was released back in 2007. Since then, every phone company wanted to make a device that looks like the iPhone. Take a look at this image from Cult of Mac.

Checkout an infographic of Android vs. iPhone

The phones on the left were the ones which dominated the market before the iPhone and the ones on the right were after the iPhone was introduced. How exactly did the iPhone revolutionize the world of mobile phones?

The iPhone was the first flawless mobile touchscreen device

One of the reasons why phones can’t become thinner back then is because of the keyboards. The iPhone showed that you can make a phone with a touchscreen eating up majority of its front and with only one button, making the phone thinner and much better looking.

The iPhone showed how easy it is to distribute software

The iPhone was not the first one to use apps and the iTunes store is definitely not the first mobile app store. But Apple made everything simpler. Back then, you had to download an app from an online store, connect your phone to a PC and hope you had the driver so that you can send the app to your phone. Today, you can’t own and iPhone without your own iTunes account and installing apps are a few clicks away.

The iPhone became synonymous with mobile multimedia entertainment

Remember when you had to buy an MP3 player so that you can listen to music on the go? The iPhone successfully integrated music into mobile phones that separate mobile music players became obsolete. Also, the motion sensor or accelerometer was first introduced on the original iPhone. If not for this, games like Temple Run could have not been possible.

What So Cool About Androids?

Not to be outdone by Apple, Google, HTC, Sony, Samsung and more (known as the Open Handset Alliance) joined forces to create the Android operating system. The world first witnessed Android 1.0 in September of 2008 and since then, ten “sweet” versions have been showcased. Like the iPhone, the Android has also brought a lot of innovations into the mobile world. But there are particular reasons why you would want an Android smartphone.

Install and run any app that you want

Androids are not that strict when it comes to apps. This is why there a lot more free apps on the Google Play Store compared to the iTunes Store. You can even run apps that are not on the official Android app store.

More customization options

Don’t like how your home screen looks? You can easily download third-party launchers to make your Android look the way you want it. Tons of widgets can also be used to make using your phone easier. Scheduling tasks is also a breeze with any Android. With it, you can mute your phone automatically when you arrive at school or send a birthday message to someone even if you actually forget the date!

Lots of hardware to choose from

Because Android is a project of a multitude of manufacturers, you have a lot of phone types to choose from! Each Android phone from different companies has their own unique features. With hundreds to choose from, there is definitely one design that would suit your taste.
